![]() The microscopic description in a pathology report includes information about the appearance of the cells after they have been stained with routine stains such as hematoxylin and eosin (also known as H&E) and viewed under the microscope. What is the gross description on a surgical pathology report? However, the fixed (permanent) section preserves more detail and is more commonly used to make a diagnosis than frozen sections. This can be done in about 15 to 20 minutes.įrozen sections are suitable for preparing tissue for some tests, such as immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry. To make frozen sections, the tissue sample is rapidly frozen, cut into sections using an instrument called a cryostat, stained, and examined by a pathologist. For example, this type of examination would be used during surgery to provide the surgeon with a rapid diagnosis for an area of abnormal tissue and the extent of the abnormal area while the patient is in the operating room. Frozen sections are prepared when an immediate answer about a tissue sample is needed. The pathologist typically sends a pathology report to the doctor within 10 days after the biopsy or surgery is performed.įrozen sectioning is another approach used by a pathologist for tissue examination. Preparing fixed sections normally takes several days. This is known as histologic (tissue) examination.įixed sections provide the maximum detail of the structures in a tissue sample, and they can be saved and analyzed in the future if needed. The slides are stained with dyes to help visualize parts of the cell and structures in the tissue. The paraffin-embedded tissue is then sliced into very thin sections that are placed onto microscopic slides. Once processed, the tissue is embedded into a permanent paraffin wax block to be cut. This stabilizes the cells for further processing in an automated machine that submerges the tissue in substances that remove water and replace it with molten paraffin wax. The most common approach used for tissue examination involves chemically “fixing” the specimen, usually with a chemical called formalin. The specimen must be processed to make it solid before it can be cut into sections. Tissue or cell specimens must be cut into very thin slices, called sections, so the pathologist can look at them under a microscope. ![]() The Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy fact sheet describes this procedure and its use in determining the extent, or stage, of cancer in the body.Ī pathologist may also examine cells that are present in bodily fluids, such as urine, cerebrospinal fluid (the fluid around the brain and spinal cord), sputum (mucus from the lungs), peritoneal (abdominal cavity) fluid, pleural (chest cavity) fluid, cervical/vaginal smears, and bone marrow. What I’m using currently is the Ultra Pro premium card sleeves, which are a very slightly heavier gauge than their normal penny sleeves (can barely tell the difference). Curious if others have had that experience or suspicion like I have. When I have purchased individual cards or sets that were sleeved that way, the cards really stick inside the sleeves and it also seems that the sleeve had removed the gloss and shine from the surface of the card. I suspect those may cause damage to the backs of cards. The ones with designs on the back, or they can be a solid color. One more thing… about the sleeves that don’t have clear backs, like the kind leonhart uses in his videos. But like others, I also find the perfect fit sleeves too tight around the cards for me to feel comfortable storing valuable cards that way. So if you were building pokemon TCG decks I would recommend that. I used perfect fit sleeves inside dragon shield sleeves for MtG which I found ideal for playing. I also keep the binders vertical (like books on a bookshelf) so they’re not stacked on top of each other. ![]() I keep my cards in a well ventilated area where the temperature is always room temperature. My favorite binders are the ultra pro premium binders which come with various pokemon themes. Importantly, the card can breathe at the top. Once the card is in there, I feel confident it’s not going to get further wear from handling or from being in the binder. It’s semi rigid on the sides and bottom so the card is well protected. I use one sleeve, the ultra pro deck protector. Overall I’m really happy with how it looks and had so much fun doing it. I will continue to do so, but, just be very careful.Īlso, regular penny DO fit, but do wrinkle with insertion and do not look as nice. I will admit, unless you “hit it” just right, there were times where it was uncomfortably difficult get put the cards in. I have to be honest, last night I received a binder and some KMC perfect sleeves to put my raw 1st ed base (no holos yet) in. Also is it a bad idea to put your most valuable cards in the front page? Thanks! I feel kind of uneasy putting a 600+ card into a single deck sleeve and was wondering how do you protect your higher end raw cards, do you double sleeve them or does it not really matter or does it make it worse? I know I could use top loaders but I’m looking for the best way to protect it while having it in a standard premium foe leather binder. Right now all I have for protection is some matte black dragon shield sleeves, and while good I don’t know if I need more protection for the more high end cards. Hey as I’m starting out collecting again I’ve decided the best way to get the most enjoyment for the least cost would be to get binder sets of raw nm cards. ![]() ![]() ![]()
